The Monks of Gaden Shartse return to the Oregon Coast

The Monks of Gaden Shartse Monastery return to the Central Oregon Coast the 12th through the 17th of July, 2008.

Gaden Shartse Monastic College (popularly known as 'Shartse') was originally founded in Tibet in the fifteenth century. After the invasion of Tibet by the Chinese, a small group of elder monks and fifteen young boys, all of whom had managed to escape the destruction in Tibet, settled on land given to them by the Indian government in Mundgod, Kamataka, and founded the current monastic college in 1969 as an effort to re-establish one of the great monastic traditions of Tibet. The monks are touring the United States, in an effort to raise funds for outfitting a recently completed hospital will serve the Tibetan refugees in India.

The Monks will be creating a sand mandala, and holding teachings & empowerments at the Green Salmon, as well as the Yachats Commons July 12-17. The public is invited & encouraged to attend.
